We recognize the interest of DGIS in the Mekong Basin and have formed a new collaboration with an important ongoing project there financed independently by the Australian Centre for International Agricultural Research. The project is a collaboration between the National University of Lao and Charles Sturt University in Australia. It focuses on fishway technologies that enable or restore connectivity between the Lower Mekong and adjoining floodplain wetland systems. The study includes detailed social and economic studies to quantify the benefits of re‐establishing system connectivity. The innovative approach taken by these partners will be an important input to our efforts to better design and operate individual dams.
