The Nature Conservancy

TNC is a science‐based NGO focused on land and water conservation and with offices around the world. Their global programs target a limited scope of issues where they feel they can have a measurable impact. Sustainable hydropower is one of three issues in their global water program. Major achievements of this program in 2015 were the launch of the white paper “The Power of Rivers” reporting a global application of their Hydropower by Design approach and the opening of a Center for Sustainable Hydropower in China.

TNC’s global water program will be a core science and impact partner in S‐MultiStor. TNC has a well‐establish and active office in Colombia with scientific staff, abundant knowledge of the hydropower and river basin development sector, and with close linkages to many basin knowledge‐users and stakeholders. TNC Colombia will therefore serve as both a research partner and coordination support partner. TNC is also in the process of opening an office in Myanmar, which may eventually serve similar roles. TNC expects to contribute €275,000 in matching funds to efforts in the aligned work plan of S‐MultiStor and has indicated an expectation of broader collaboration and joint fund raising in its letter of support.
